We work together and love the outcome. We are both retired and we were looking for a hobby. I am Patti and love to paint. My other half, Dan, likes to do the cutting part of the job. It works out perfectly. He cuts, I sand and paint and we finish the piece together.
We cut the pieces using 3/4 inch or 1/2 inch exterior plywood. All are cut out using MDO plywood. This is plywood that is made with waterproof glue and put together a little differently to ensure longer life. The wood is double sanded to ensure a smooth finish. Any gaps in the plywood are sealed before any painting takes place to ensure no moisture. We seal the painted side with a paint/primer and paint the back black with an exterior Benjamin Moore paint. Lastly, each piece is brush coated on each side using a good polyurethane. The pieces are made to last for years. You will be asked to make sure you apply a coat of spray every 1-2 years. In addition, it is not recommended to store the yard art in plastic as over time it may cause the wood to warp. It is better to wrap it in cloth maybe a pillowcase for small pieces and an old sheet for larger ones. Store away from moisture.
I have done some research and have considered my pricing. Yes, I know other sites charge more but I really would like to see Yard Art make a come back. I know the plastic and blow ups are all the rage but you cannot beat wood. It is money well spent as it will last for years. Shine a light on it at night and it will really stand out.
